Cycling opportunities galore!!

Gear Up for the Cycling Season with Cycling Workshops and Rides Presented by the Haliburton Highlands Cycling Coalition

Most workshops are free, and will go unless it is thundering or raining really hard. Helmets required for all rides.

 Tune Your Bike – Wednesday May 14 Sir Sandford Fleming College Rm 8 – 7:00 – 9:00 pmRegister with HKPRD Health Unit 457-1391 (maximum of 10 people)Join Rob Meyers and get your bike tuned up for the cycling season.  In this hands on workshop you will check/ fix your brakes and gears, clean your chain, adjust your seat and handle bars to fit you and learn some basic repair skills (flat tire, broken chain).  Rob will also review what essential tools are needed when you go for a bike ride.  Bring your bike and any tools you have that will be useful. Getting Back on Your Bike – Thursday May 22Meet at the Haliburton town docks – 7:00 – 8:30 pmRegister with HKPRD Health Unit 457-1391 (maximum of 10 people)This workshop is for those folks to want to learn, or refresh their cycling skills.  Sean Pennylegion will review all the basics (getting started, choosing necessary equipment, gear selection, tips and etiquette for riding on the road, helmet and bicycle fitting). We will conclude with a mystery ride and, of course, the requisite, not-to-be-missed, ice-cream cone.  Cycle to Bonnieview  - Sunday May 25Meet at the Haliburton town docks – 10:00 amRegister with HKPRD Health Unit 457-1391“It is worth the bike ride to sit on the dock at Bonnieview and have a fresh
glass of juice or a light snack.”  After a leisurely 10k ride with Marie-Lee Zahab and David Zilstra, owner Andrea Hagarty will tell us her story about how cycling helps her manage stress and helped her lose weight.  Light refreshments will be available for $5 per person.
Peddle Your Arts - Tour du Village – Saturday, May 31 Meet at the Rails end Gallery at 8:30 Registration required  - contact Yours Outdoors at 705-754-3436 or barrie.martin@sympatico.ca Discover the world of art in Haliburton Village. Set on the shores of Head Lake and steeped in the history of 19th century logging, the Village offers the opportunity to both enjoy a wide variety of outdoor pursuits while exploring the creative talents of our local artists.  This bicycle tour (approximately 10km) explores a variety of visual arts offerings while enjoying our scenic village from the comfort of a bicycle seat. Anyone who can ride a bike can do this tour. Your hosts are experienced cyclists with intimate knowledge of the area and years of guiding practice. This is a full but relaxed day punctuated by good company, delightful artisans and outstanding food. There is a $95/person registration fee.
